We can condition our mind to get use to recall things like having a portable DVD player that replays past event.<br /> <br />We usually let our subconscious mind do all the learning work and left our conscious mind pampered too much like a spoilt kid. Now it’s time to let our conscious mind exercise a bit by increasing our awareness.<br /> <br />We can increase our awareness of daily activities through daily retrospection. Before we go to bed, we recall the events happened in our life today. We replay the life scenes and see the people we interact with, the food we eat, the things we read, the stuffs we do etc – a mental simulation of our life in one day. This awareness-increasing exercise trains you to recall things well. As we improve, we can go further on until we can recall events in many days.<br /> <br />Sometimes daily retrospection works so well that we can even recall dreams. Don’t just stop there, get a dream journal and record your last dream right after you wake up. Days later you will have deeper awareness until you can remember a few dreams easily. If you can recall daily events and dreams, you can remember many other things. Heck! you can even play back the classes you attended and extract information from there.<br /> <br />Meditation is also a good way to increase awareness. Chin Peng (real name: Ong Boon Hua) was born in 1924 and is the last leader of the banned Communist Party of Malaya. He now lives in Thailand because the Malaysian government does not allow him to return, despite his repeated attempts to go through the courts.<br />The Communist Party of Malaya was set up in 1930 (in a ceremony attended by Ho Chi Minh) and recruited from the working class (mainly ethnic Chinese) exploited by colonial British economic interests. The CPM played an active role in the anti-Japanese resistance movement during World War Two, and cooperated with the British. But once the Japanese surrendered, the communists wanted to take over the country for themselves. This is when they and the British became enemies once again. 1948-60 is the era known as the Emergency, the longest and bloodiest undeclared war in Commonwealth history. Driven to operate from secret jungle hideouts, the communists carried out several attacks against British economic and security targets. While still in his 20s, Chin Peng became the most wanted man in the British empire.<br />The British curtailed the communist influence by keeping the public in heavily-guarded, racially segregated villages, so that the people could no longer supply food and medicine to the guerillas. The propaganda war was stepped up too. Many of the documentaries of that era (made by the propaganda arm of the British Army in Malaya) featured songs to keep the target audience entertained. “The Last Communist” pays ironic tribute to this root of Malaysian documentary by also inserting specially-composed songs.<br />After Malaya achieved independence in 1957, the new government kept to the British model of governance and priorities. In the Cold War, Malaysia was firmly allied with the West, and Communism became the ultimate bogey right up to the 1980s. No positive mention of the communists’ role in history would ever be allowed.<br />“The Last Communist” uses this historical data as backdrop, but is more interested in seeing how the country has changed (or not) from the time of Chin Peng’s youth to now. The director and his crew travel to the towns Chin Peng lived in from birth to national independence. Most of these towns are still not very developed as the modern highways bypass them.<br />Interviews with various people in these towns are sought. They will talk about their jobs and their beliefs in various languages, reflecting the multilingual and polymorphous reality of contemporary Malaysia. Some of these have a direct connection to some aspect of Chin Peng’s life. (For example, a bicycle seller, after we find out Chin Peng’s family was in the bicycle trade). In other instances, the interviews are meant to form a telling view of how present-day Malaysians view themselves in the economic, social and political order.<br />The longest sequence takes place in Betong, Thailand, home of many exiled members of the Communist Party of Malaya. They too will take about their jobs and beliefs, and the audience is meant to reflect on how similar or different they are from the Malaysians we had met earlier. So it is important to pay attention to what we eat. However, except foods, necessary for eye care, there are also some herbs and easy exercises that are beneficial to the eyesight and can fight eye diseases.<br /><br /><span style="color:#993399;">Carrot juice is a perfect provider of nourishment for healthy eyes, as it is a richest source of vitamin A. This juice can be taken in any amount and at any time. Twice a year use carrot juice as a treatment-drink 1 glass of it every morning during 1 month.<br /></span><br /><span style="color:#ff9900;">Parsley juice is very effective at many eye diseases. Cataract and conjunctivitis are among them. It is one of the strongest juices; therefore it is not advisable to drink more than 30-40 ml a day. Use mix of parsley and carrots juices.<br /></span><br /><span style="color:#009900;">Beet juice provides a good eye-care by cleansing the eyes, blood and the whole body. Add 2 tbsp of beet juice to the mix of carrot and parsley juices.<br /></span><br />40 g of crushed calamus (sweet flag) roots put in 200 g of 40 % alcohol or vodka, cover with tight lid and let stand in dark place for 8 days, squeeze out and filter. Take 20 drops 2 times a day before meal.<br /><br />2 tsp of sweet flag roots put in 1 cup of boiling water and steep, covered, for 2 hours. Filter and take ¼ cup 3 times a day 30 min before meal.<br /><br />1 part of crushed barberry leaves combine with 5 parts of 40% alcohol or vodka, let stay for 5 days and filter. Take 30-40 drops 3 times a day before meal.<br /><br /><span style="color:#999900;">10 g of dried crushed schizandra berries put in 1 cup of boiling water and boil for 15 min at low heat, filter and add boiled water to make full cup again. Take 1 tbsp twice a day. (Both times before lunch.). Schizandra is not recommended at insomnia, hypertension and heart and vascular diseases.<br /></span><br />1 cup of wheat kernels mix with 1 tbsp of sugar and warm boiled water, just enough to moisten the wheat. Let stand in dark place for 12 hours. After that keep the wheat in fridge. Take 1 tbsp in the morning on empty stomach. When this portion is done take a break for 10 days and repeat. For the full course of eye-care treatment you will need 3 cups of wheat kernels. It is a powerfull eye care remedy.<br /><br />This remedy is believed to be able to treat myopia at any stage. Place layers of elder berries and sugar in glass jar and let stand for 3 days outside in the sun. Take 1tsp 3 times a day 15 min before meal for 1-2 months. Repeat 1-2 times a year if needed.<br /><br />Take 1 tbsp of fresh onion juice, mixed with equal amount of honey, 2-3 times a day.<br /><br /><span style="color:#003333;">Combine mash of rue grass (10 parts), mash of parsley (1 part) and honey (1 part). And if you don't do anything, then nothing will improve.<br /><br />If you ARE one of those people who practice what they know (and I'm sure you are), then you probably have a lot on your plate right now. This issue of the newsletter is to help people like you get the bigger picture of what you're doing. We are done analysing (breaking a big problem into smaller problems) and we'll now start synthesizing (combining small solutions into one big solution).<br /><br />First off, let's recap what we have covered so far.<br /><br />It's not your eyes that see. It's your brain. And your brain have the power to improve itself, from the mere act of imagining.<br />One great way to imagine is to palm your eyes and imagine seeing clearly.<br />The eye exercises that you'll be doing (or is doing) is not meant to "strengthen" your eye muscles, but on the contrary, to relax it. These exercises achieve this by making you see the "proper" way.<br />The way you breathe affects your whole body - including your eyes.<br />Underexposing your eyes to sunlight is equally harmful to overexposing.<br />Blinking is a great way to relax your eyes so make sure you blink every 3 -4 seconds.<br />They sound like a lot of work right? So let's start synthesizing them into one routine that you can easily follow.<br /><br />Here's what I do. First thing I do when I wake up, I drink a large glass of water. Then I palm for 5 - 10 minutes. Set a timer so you wouldn't worry about doing too short or too long.<br /><br />When I palm, I imagine the things that relaxes me - a stretch of sandy quiet beach and the gentle wind. On that beach is me without my glasses and drinking fresh coconut juice (what else?). I also consciously imagine clearly seeing someone's face from afar on that beach - it's my husband. ( Imagining that you see something clearly without your glasses will take some practice if you've been wearing glasses your whole life).<br /><br />After I palm, I go out for a morning walk to expose my eyes to the gentle morning sun (6.30 am). After the walk, I would sit on a bench, close my eyes with my face facing up and swing my head. Meanwhile I breathe deeply and again I imagined something that soothes me.<br /><br />Then I go back home and continue with my daily life. How long did my morning routine takes? About 20 - 30 minutes. The difference I feel for the rest of the day... is really quite unbelievable unless you try it yourself.<br /><br />So go try it. Next week I'll introduce you to yet another eye exercise and if you don't master these basics for now (There's a reason why I only send out one issue of this newsletter per week. Are you multi-tasking a lot? If so, you're probably breaking one of the natural vision improvement principle.<br /><br />If you often multi-task, there's a good chance you're also multi-tasking with your eyes. You probably look at more than one thing at a time... and looking at more than one thing at a time places unnecessary strain on your eyes.<br /><br />Try this. Get two pebbles and place them about 20 inches apart. Ask a friend of yours who have perfect vision to look at pebble A. Then ask him/her if he/she can look at pebble B. Their answer is probably not. That's because our eyes are meant to look at just one thing at a time.<br /><br />I remember an incident whereby a basketball player friend of mine came to me saying how he wish he can see "more things at once". That way he can then know when an opponent sneaks up on him. He had perfect vision, but as soon as he tried to see "more", his eyesight deteriorated.<br /><br />Of course, at the time I didn't know about that principle of focus or I'd have warned him.<br /><br />So what can you do to focus your sight? All you have to do is do the exercise I mentioned above. At your first try, you probably can clearly see both pebbles. Try to look at one only.<br /><br />Remember, don't stare. Blink often and take deep breaths. This exercise is not meant to encourage you to place more effort into seeing. (papaya, eggs, fish, milk, cilantro etc.,) <br /><br />Wash eyes with cold water to get sparkling eyes. <br /><br />Put sliced cucumber over your eyes to treat dark circles. <br /><br />Put potato slices on your eye to get rid off those dark circles. <br /><br />Soak amla overnight in water and use this water the next morning to wash the eyes. <br />Soak cotton in Luke warm milk and cover eyes with it for 15 min. <br /><br />To soothe tired eyes, dip cotton pads in chilled milk and place on closed eyes for 10 minutes. Now relax completely. <br /><br />To completely relax the eyes and the surrounding muscles, close your eyes and think of something that is pleasant or soothing and at a distance. Now gently open your eyes and look into the distance. Next focus on an object at arm's length. Do this extremely relaxing exercise four or five times a day.<br /><br />If your eye twitches, or your eyes are red and feeling itchy, massage your scalp with curd. <br /><br />Soak 1 tsp. dry amla in one cup of water overnight. Next morning strain it through a muslin cloth and then add one extra cup of water. Splash your eyes with this solution each morning. This makes your eyes sparkle. <br /><br />For Puffy Eyes: Grate a potato with its peel and apply on your closed eyelids for about 20 minutes and relax completely. You may even take a nap.<br /><br /><br />Wash your face before sleeping, and ensure that there is no make-up on your face before you sleep, because, make-up creams may spoil your face as it will be there for the whole night. It is better if no cream is applied.
